and the
papers in my hand
hold the
news I’d rather not read
in a year
or two—at least
if I’m
behind the times I can
stay in
the past and be trapped.
She said “I
don’t need anything”
when I
asked “What do you want?”
I’m pretty
sure you would
need what’s
up and happening
and she
didn’t even answer
the
question properly.
So, news
flash! It stung my eyes
and I
couldn’t see if the
glass was
still half-full but it didn’t
matter at
all because I knocked
it away—
Crash!
It was
breaking news.
